If you never broke down a 600 before they can be a little tricky to get back together. It may also be stamped just below the stock as well. I know for a fact that at the end of production for the Remington model 12 they used Remington 121 parts to repair any returns. Is there possibly a number 3 stamped on the barrel around the reciever. It is possible that it was sent back for repairs and thats the only reciever they had to fix it. ![]() It is very possible that someone picked up the wrong reciever. The receiver is marked Remington Model 600 with the serial #17,XXX. Thanks for the answer - I think!? The seller told me it was a Mohawk - but nowhere on the rifle does it say that. In regards to your mismatched reciever again its anyones guess. #Remington 600 mohawk serial number serial numbers#I have never been one to really be attracted to serial numbers unless it was number 1 so I cant say I have really been looking. I would say 5 digit ones are a little harder to find. I have seen them and like I said without digging all of mine out on the top of my head I believe I have 100007 660. I am sure you gave a production date at sometime on this forum. I know this doesnt answer your question, but this just prooves trying to figure out the serial number issue is crazy. The serial number jumped because they added the Mohawk into the picture. The model 660 and the 600 Mohawk were numbered in this same block up to 6,222,957. I have a letter from Larry Goodstal that says During November of 1968 the number system was changed and started with the model 660 block with 6,200,000. However there were only a total of 94,028 600s made and 50,536 660s made. Remington records state that 600s started out at serial number 1000 and ended with 131,552. ![]() ![]() The 5 digit serial number is going to be anyones guess. ![]()
